“After serving in the ADF for 12 years, I discharged during a very difficult time for myself and my family, I was carrying several injuries and had lost my father to cancer and needed to be home to run the family farm.
I starting working for a civil construction company to make ends meet and soon found myself in a job that offered little in the way of satisfaction or career progression. The hours I had to work meant there was little time for study or professional development. I had some strong qualifications and a lot of experience but did not have the confidence nor the tools to apply these to a civilian career, I was depressed and it was starting to affect my relationship, energy and life in general.
I was contacted by Tom Moore from Withyouwithme through LinkedIn, we chatted on the phone on several occasions about the qualifications and experience I had, and where I wanted to be in my career. His positive attitude and the services he offered, allowed me to become more confident in my abilities and also narrowed down the fields I should be pursuing.
Within 4 weeks of being in contact with the organisation, I had resigned from my job as a truck driver and applied for several positions in WHS and emergency management, areas I felt confident I could apply my skills and experience to. The confidence and focus I got back from Tom soon meant that I had several amazing career opportunities to choose from, and I have now secured a position as a WHS consultant and Emergency response trainer.
If you are considering discharging from the ADF or have recently done so, the mentoring programs and services provided by Tom and WithyouWIthme will give you the tools and confidence to transition into a successful civilian career.”
